An All American athlete embodies the dedicated characteristics, drive, and ideals of success. The title was first coined by author and editor Caspar Whitney in his 1889 publication, This Weeks Sports. Whitney penned the honor by selecting 11 collegiate gridiron greats for the inaugural All American list. To this day, the distinguished title continues to be bestowed upon the top amateur competitors in the nation. This collection has been built through the inspiration around what it means to be an All American.
